The rumors were out there that Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) was visiting another school, and they were refuted earlier in the weekend. But on Sunday, they were confirmed. When Vonn Bell (Rossville, Ga./Ridgeland) announced he was planning to take official visits to Alabama, Ohio State and Tennessee shortly after his team’s state runner-up finish, BuckeyeNation said the trip to Ohio would be important.
Developments since then prove just how vital this weekend will be for the Buckeyes as they try to round out an already stellar defensive recruiting class by adding the ESPN 150 safety.
For Ohio State it really could be a case of all or nothing. Bell was very impressed with the fact Urban Meyer came to his state title game and sat with his family.

It took Ohio State a little more than a month to flip the switch.
Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) headed into The Horseshoe to watch the Buckeyes’ 26-21 win over Michigan on an official visit Nov. 24.
He announced his commitment at the Under Armour All-America Game on Friday and plugged a hole the Buckeyes have been trying to fill for more than seven months.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- For months, Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and his staff have made the No. 2 inside linebacker prospect in the country a recruiting priority.
Their patience paid off tonight when Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) committed to Ohio State during the Under Armour All-America Game, live on ESPN.
Johnson chose Ohio State over Florida and Tennessee.
A longtime Auburn Tigers commitment, Johnson happened to be returning from his official visit to Ohio State on Nov. 25 when Auburn fired coach Gene Chizik. That time on the Columbus, Ohio, campus helped the No. 2 inside linebacker get a better feel for the Buckeyes.
“When I took a visit up there it was different,” said Johnson, a starter in the UA Game. “I kind of like the feel up there, the depth chart. And there are many factors that make it a good fit there.”
The addition of Johnson gives Ohio State 20 commitments, nine of those being members of the ESPN 150, and boosts what is already the No. 4 recruiting class in the ESPN rankings.
Johnson, who made 140 tackles, three sacks, and one interception as a senior, is the first linebacker commitment for the Buckeyes in the 2013 class. They are still working to add linebacker and ESPN 150 prospect Mike Mitchell (Plano, Texas/Prestonwood Christian Academy), and are in the mix for another standout in the Peach State, Under Armour All-American safety Vonn Bell (Rossville, Ga./Ridgeland).

With the fluidity of the Oregon Ducks' LB recruiting in recent weeks, the news has been coming and going in a fast and furious manner. Last week, the Ducks were thought to have offered two linebackers from the Southeast. An offer did go out to one but the other has yet to become official. If it does, it could play a key role in the closing stretch of Oregon's 2013 recruiting class.
The Ducks offered former Auburn commit, LB Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett), after his decommitment from the Tigers. Johnson likes Ohio State and Florida but might consider an Oregon visit.
Fast-rising LB Zach Cunningham (Pinson, Ala./Pinson Valley) has had Oregon DB coach John Neal and Ducks' LB coach Don Pellum in town to see him over the past two weeks. The Ducks are known for doing their due diligence when it comes to recruits, especially when it comes to far-away targets.

For the second time this week, the Oregon Ducks offered a star defensive recruit from SEC country. While trying to improve at the linebacker position, the Ducks continue to venture into the South in an effort to expand their recruiting reach. Early this week, the Ducks offered fast rising LB Zach Cunningham (Pinson, Ala./Pinson Valley).
Today Oregon wide receivers coach Scott Frost stopped by (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) and left after offering one of the elite defenders in the state. LB Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) will be honored at a ceremony on Thursday to recognize him as the region's defensive player of the year.
The former Auburn commit will have to decide if the late offer from Oregon is enough to get him across the country for a visit. Ohio State appears to be in a good spot for Johnson, but -- as always -- if the Ducks get him on campus, they could potentially become a player for the four-star LB.

New Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn is already familiar with current Tigers’ commitment Jason Smith (Mobile, Ala./McGill-Toolen). He tried to recruit the four-star athlete to Arkansas State when he was still the coach there, and the two have kept in touch since back when Malzahn was the AU offensive coordinator.
Now, Smith is excited about the opportunity to play for a coach he knows, mainly because of the offense Malzahn is bringing with him.
“All I can say is War Eagle,” Smith said. “I’m excited really, especially about the past offenses he has run. The offense he runs is successful. It was successful with Cam Newton. There aren’t too many Cam Newtons out there, but he made a big impact, running that offense and making plays that other people couldn’t make. The offense itself speaks for itself.”

Luke Fickell talks enough Xs and Os during the season to fill up an entire warehouse of chalkboards.
On Wednesday, the Ohio State linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator just wanted to spend a little down time with Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett).
Fickell was at the ESPN 150 inside linebacker’s high school and then made an in-house visit with Johnson, but it was more about quality time and less about football.

"Trey is going to decommit from Auburn today," Wofford said. "Trey wants to be fair to himself and to the teams that he has interest in. He isn't going to address Auburn until they name a coach."
Johnson took his first official visit over the weekend to Ohio State. Upon his return, he did not want to discussion the situation at Auburn.
