Tuesday trifecta for Monte Harrison
By Damon Sayles
Four-star wide receiver Monte Harrison (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Lee’s Summit West) became the latest to hit the recruiting trifecta on Tuesday.
Harrison started the morning with an offer from Iowa. Minutes later, he was offered by Tulsa. Later in the afternoon, Harrison added Kentucky to his list. Kentucky is his third SEC offer, joining Arkansas and Missouri.
Prior to Tuesday, Harrison described his recruiting process as “pretty quiet.”
“It’d been kind of calm. I hadn’t really heard from anyone,” Harrison said. “Right now, I’m playing baseball, and my coaches want me to focus on baseball and not worry about recruiting.”
Harrison has put down his shoulder pads and helmet in exchange for a bat and outfielder spikes. The state of Missouri’s No. 4 overall football player also is a solid baseball standout who owns Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas offers on the diamond.
At 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, Harrison is a multisport standout at Lee’s Summit West. He’s a center fielder in baseball during the spring, and during the winter season, Harrison is a guard for Lee’s Summit West’s basketball team. When asked about concentrating on one sport, Harrison said he’s unsure which sport has his heart. He’s also unsure about playing two sports in college.
“I’m open for the two-sports deal,” he said, “but I don’t know what I’ll do right now. I don’t know when a decision’s going to be made. I’ll have to talk to my mom whenever it’s that time to make a decision. I know I’ve still got some time.”
Harrison was an all-state honorable mention baseball player last season, but college football fans hope Harrison’s recruiting trifecta will help him ultimately choose football. Ranked the No. 44 receiver in the country, Harrison has additional offers from Kansas State, Kansas, Nebraska and Michigan State.
