Three-star Grant makes college pick

By Corey Long

Three-star athlete Janarion Grant (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) parlayed a strong senior season into a recruiting battle between Rutgers and hometown program South Florida. On Tuesday, the 5-foot-10, 165-pound senior made his decision.

Grant committed to Rutgers in the morning after taking an official visit to the New Jersey campus over the weekend, according to Pasco head coach Tom McHugh.

After missing the first half of the season, Grant finished the season with 19 touchdowns, scoring on offense, defensive and special teams.

UConn and Houston jumped on board, with several schools offering later in the season. Grant took official visits to Houston and Rutgers and made an unofficial visit to South Florida. East Carolina, West Virginia and Oklahoma State were also in the running.

He will likely be brought in as a slot receiver or defensive back at Rutgers, which will join the Big Ten as early as 2014.
