Kentucky WR commit Yancey has new plan

By Radi Nabulsi

Wide receiver Deangelo Yancey says he is still committed to Kentucky, but that is likely to change soon.

The 6-foot-2, 201-pound wideout was scheduled to visit the Wildcats this weekend on an official visit but instead will head off to a new contender.

“I am going up to Purdue this weekend,” Yancey said. “I was supposed to take my official to Kentucky this weekend, but I decided it would just be best for me to go to Purdue. They came in a week ago and told me that they took my highlight film to the head coach. He said, ‘I really like you and we got to get you up here.’ ”

And what does he think of the Wildcats and their new coaching staff?

“Right now I am looking around for other options,” Yancey said. “I haven’t done anything yet, but the way the recruitment is going and how the depth chart is going, it would not be a good fit for me. I am looking at Missouri and Purdue. Those offers came in late.”

Yancey’s previous relationship with former Kentucky wide receivers coach Pat Washington could find him still in the SEC East but with the Tigers.

“Coach Watson ended up getting a job at Mizzzou and he came back to the school and recruited me,” Yancey said. “If I take a visit out there it will be the weekend before signing day.”

Yancey said he is looking for a school that will be happy to have him.

“Basically I just want to go somewhere that I am wanted,” Yancey said. “I know that wherever I get in, I am going to have to work regardless, but I still want to go where I am wanted.”
