Three-star TE Dowdell, Kentucky part ways
By Corey Dowlar
For a while now, three-star TE Darren Dowdell (Atlanta/Grady) was expected to continue his education in the SEC at Kentucky. Since September, when Dowdell made his original commitment to the Wildcats, he simply figured that was the next step.
Well, that didn't turn out to be the case. The two parties have apparently split ways.
"They are not committed to him, unfortunately," said Grady head coach Ronnie Millen.
"I don't feel that great about it. He has been committed to them for a while. I know it is a new staff, but we met with the new staff and got confirmation from them that he was going to be honored, but then they told us some new things that I am not 100 percent sure about, but I know that the kid is qualified."
All is not lost for the 6-foot-3, 217-pound tight end, though. He still has offers, and he still is in communication with other programs.
Though that is not to minimize his disappointment.
"He's still in contact with some schools," Millen said. "Right now, it is more of Cincinnati, East Carolina and Middle Tennessee, those teams."
ESPN has Dowdell rated as the No. 94 prospect in the state of Georgia.
