New interest for OU juco commit St. John

By Damon Sayles

ESPN Junior College 100 offensive tackle Josiah St. John (Athens, Texas/Trinity Valley Community College) committed to Oklahoma on Dec. 19 and is expected to sign with the Sooners next month. In the meantime, schools are still trying relentlessly to sway him -- and rightfully so.

St. John, the No. 6 junior college prospect in the country, said the newest school to show interest has been Florida State. The 6-foot-7, 300-pound tackle said the Seminoles would offer him if he were interested in flipping his commitment, but he doesn’t see that happening.

“I would love to go to school in Florida,” St. John said, “but I like what I’m getting at OU.”

A four-star athlete, St. John took his official visit to Oklahoma the weekend of Oct. 26, when the Sooners hosted Notre Dame. He is currently at Trinity Valley finishing the spring semester and is expecting to enroll at Oklahoma in June.

“I’m real excited to be a part of a great program like OU,” he said. “I want to come in and help any way I can. I’ve been grinding in the weight room trying to get ready. Offseason is the most important part of the year for me.”

St. John ultimately chose Oklahoma over an offer from Kansas, but he also had offers from West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and a host of other programs.
