Nebraska adds pledge from TE Cethan Carter

By Mitch Sherman

Late-rising prospect Cethan Carter (Metairie, La./Archbishop Rummel) announced his commitment to Nebraska Thursday night on Twitter.

Carter, projected as a tight end in college, could not be immediately reached for comment.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Carter completed his senior season without a scholarship offer, helping lead Rummel to a Louisiana 5A championship last month. His stock skyrocketed as the Huskers offered, followed by an opportunity to greyshirt at LSU and enroll for the spring of 2014.

Carter had planned to visit Louisiana-Lafayette this weekend and LSU on Jan. 25. The status of those visits remains unknown.

He had also added offers from Memphis, Southern Miss, Florida International and Tulane and was considering a visit to Alabama, though the Crimson Tide had not offered.

Carter fills a primary need in the 2013 for Nebraska, which missed on junior-college tight end target Beau Sandland of Pierce (Calif.) Community College, who signed last month with Miami, and failed to score a visit from Brandon Vandenburg of California’s College of the Desert.

Carter grew three inches and added 25 pounds over the past year. He played fullback in high school but said last week he looked forward to the position switch in college.

Carter visited Nebraska last weekend and gives the school 21 commitments for its recruiting class.
