On Monday, AU offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee came by Oxford High School to see Thomas. New Tigers’ head coach Gus Malzahn already has reached out to the in-state running back by phone and wants to try to get him on campus.
The meeting with Auburn was followed up by a visit from Nick Saban on Wednesday. The Alabama head coach wanted to check in on Thomas and try to get him to come down for the Tide's next junior day.
Not only is Thomas planning to attend the Tide’s first junior day on Jan. 26, but he says he probably will be in Tuscaloosa this weekend for the national championship celebration.
On Thursday, Tennessee running backs’ coach Jay Graham stopped in to see the 5-foot-11, 182-pound Thomas. Graham was on the previous coaching staff with the Volunteers, so he and Thomas already have a good relationship.
“He’s cool,” Thomas said. “That’s my dude from Tennessee. Me and him always talk whenever I go up to Tennessee, because I went up there two or three times. He just wanted to tell me about stuff they’ve been doing, people they’ve been hiring and try to get me up for junior day.”
Thomas says he has been talking with his family recently about making a decision soon.
