Louisiana QB Williams makes his choice
By Gary Laney
After Metairie, La. Archbishop Rummel won the Louisiana Class 5A state championship in December, Raiders coach Jay Roth was concerned that his star quarterback, Damian Williams, had no offers.
Things changed quickly.
Thursday, Williams brought the recruiting process to an end by committing to Southern Mississippi, Roth said.
Williams, who is 6-foot-1, 210-pounds, came to the attention of Southern Miss assistant coach John Wozniak last summer when Williams camped at Alabama, where Wozniak was then coaching.
"It so happens a young coach who was at Alabama remembered him," Roth said. "And that's how the ball got rolling."
Roth said he expects his quarterback to do well at Southern Miss.
"They didn't get scared off by his height, and they got a good one," he said.
