Koehler not announcing: KU, Vols on top

By Damon Sayles

SAN ANTONIO -- Three-star offensive guard Reeve Koehler (Honolulu/St. Louis) confirmed Thursday evening that he will not announce his commitment during Saturday’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl. His decision, however, might have received some unexpected swaying.

Kansas and Tennessee made Koehler’s final list, and on Thursday, three-star inside linebacker Colton Goeas, his high school teammate, verbally committed to Kansas. Goeas once was committed to Tennessee but decommitted from the Volunteers last month.

“I didn’t even know about it,” Koehler said. “He’s a great player. That’s definitely good for him.”

Koehler, a 6-foot-4, 321-pound guard, said that while he’s happy for his teammate, his own decision will come at its own pace. Kansas and Tennessee are atop his list, but Arkansas and California also are in the mix.

“I’m just going to chill out right now,” Koehler said. “Me and my family, we decided to wait it out.”

Koehler, ranked No. 3 among players in Hawaii in the Class of 2013, has additional offers from Georgia, Oregon, Arizona State, Washington and other schools. He is ranked No. 37 among offensive guards in the class.
