Ex-Clemson WR Craig picks Memphis

By Gary Laney

Joe Craig was kicked off of Clemson's football team for violation of team rules after his freshman season.

He spent his sophomore year at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi and now finds himself heading back to Division I football.

Craig chose Memphis over Iowa State, Cincinnati and others Wednesday. He signed his letter of intent Wednesday morning and he'll join the Tigers for the spring semester.

"I really liked Coach [Jason] Fuente," he said. "He's a father and I'm a new father, so he's somebody I can go to. And talking to their players, I really think we can win the Big East."

Craig said the year in junior college, where he caught 52 passes for 598 yards to finish second in receiving among Mississippi jucos, served him well.

"It made me a better player and a better person and family man," he said. "There was a lot I needed to learn."
