2014 OLB Pugh receiving heavy interest

By Corey Dowlar

Jacob Pugh (Tallahassee, Fla./Godby) had every right to celebrate.

Gobdy High School won its first state championship in about a quarter century by the slimmest of margins. Immokalee, on the verge of a comeback, missed what would have been the game-tying extra point, allowing the Cougars to outlast their opponent.

In the coming months, Pugh will probably be happy about his recruiting accomplishments, too. A good group of schools have already offered to the junior outside linebacker and more could be on the way.

"North Carolina, Alabama, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt -- a lot of them," Pugh said.

"Alabama hasn't offered me, but all the other schools have."

The Crimson Tide definitely has Pugh's attention. If they call, he would have to listen.

"It is a good college," Pugh said. "They have good education and I love that coaching staff. They love winning national championships. They have a tradition of winning national championships, at least SEC championships."

Florida State, another program that hasn't yet offered but appears to be on the verge, has a tie to Pugh besides his home town. Related to Seminoles running back Chris Thompson, Pugh has a unique connection to FSU.

But his primary recruiter from FSU is now the head coach of Kentucky.

"I was hearing from Coach [Mark] Stoops, but he left," he said. "I haven't heard from them since."

Pugh mentioned SEC rivals Auburn and Georgia as schools he would like to hear from in the future.
