2014 QB Drew Barker talks SEC, Big Ten
By Dave Hooker
Some big-time college programs are in the hunt for Drew Barker.
The junior quarterback from Hebron (Ky.) Conner was recently contacted by Georgia, visited Notre Dame this weekend and will visit Ohio State on Nov. 24. The Fighting Irish did a good job of establishing themselves this weekend while Barker was in South Bend.
"The most unique thing that I haven't felt anywhere else was that you could actually feel the tradition," Barker said of the visit. "It was pretty awesome."
Georgia also has a foothold after contacting Barker last week. He said he's considering a visit to Athens. When asked about the interest from Georgia, Barker said, "It's great. They produce good quarterbacks and I like their system. I've always liked UGA for some reason."
Barker's interest is far reaching. He said he doesn't have a preference on conference or region of the country.
"I like the SEC [and the] Big Ten," the ESPN Watch List prospect said. "Really it doesn't matter as long as I feel like it's the place for me. I'll go anywhere."
Ohio State gets the next chance to wow Barker. The Buckeyes host Michigan on Saturday. Barker said he believes he can play in Ohio State's spread-option attack as well as play in a pocket-passing offense.
"I can do both," Barker said. "Don't really have a preference."
Barker said he doesn't expect a scholarship offer from Notre Dame, Ohio State or Georgia until after the season. He has said he would like to announce a commitment early next year so he can focus on his senior season and help his chosen school recruit.
Barker threw for 2,702 yards and 22 touchdowns this season. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound prospect ran for 1,455 yards and 18 touchdowns. The 2014 standout has several scholarship offers. The most notables are from South Carolina and Louisville.
