If four-star offensive lineman Shawn Curtis (Orlando, Fla/Olympia) is a little tired these days it should be understandable.
The 6-foot-6, 270-pound senior has already taken an official visit to Virginia two weeks ago and will taken an official to Mississippi State this weekend. In the next three weeks Curtis will take officials to Syracuse, Iowa State and Wake Forest and prepare for a final decision.
Curtis will graduate in December and enroll at the program of his choosing in January.
The only thing that kept Curtis from taking all five officials during a five-week span was homecoming.
“I figured I needed to enjoy that one as a senior,” Curtis said. “I might not be back for prom or anything. It worked out, too, because we won our game.”
Curtis will head to Starkville after Friday’s game against Atlamonte Springs (Fla.) Lake Brantley. The Bulldogs have been recruiting Curtis longer than most schools on his list.
“That staff offered me during the spring of my junior year and they have been sticking with me ever since,” Curtis said. “The staff is great and I’m looking forward to it.”
Mississippi State will have some work to do after Curtis raved about his visit to Virginia.
“I thought the campus was beautiful and everything is very nice there,” Curtis said. “The coaching staff is great. I had a good chance to talk with the players and the coaches about everything. It’s a great situation for a student athlete.”
All five of Curtis’ top programs are looking at him as a guard or a possible fit at right tackle. He currently plays in a spread-type offense at Olympia and that could give a program like Mississippi State an edge.
“I think I am a better fit for a spread offense but I’m open to anything,” Curtis said. “I’m going to go there this weekend and check everything out. Watch the offense, watch the linemen and see how it fits in with my skill set. Obviously playing in the SEC is a nice thing but there are more important factors I will be considering.”
