Florida CB names USC new leader

7/12/2012

A visit to USC by top-ranked cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III (Tampa, Fla./Wharton) on Wednesday may have been overshadowed by the headline-grabbing commitments of Khaliel Rodgers, Nico Falah and Eddie Vanderdoes, but it wasn't overlooked.

The five-star athlete has serious interest in the Trojans and even pegged them as his leaders after his trip to Los Angeles.

"It was great," Hargreaves said. "It wasn't what I expected. I'd never been there before so I didn't know what to expect. I liked everything about it."

Hargreaves, the son of USF special teams and defensive ends coach Vernon Hargreaves Jr., visited Oregon on Monday and Stanford on Tuesday before seeing USC. He enjoyed the experience enough that he plans on using one of his official visits on the Trojans.

"For sure," said Hargreaves, who will trip to Notre Dame and Ohio State on Monday.

With the commitments of Rodgers, Falah and Vanderdoes, USC's recruiting class now has 14 members, leaving four available spots assuming that three players enroll early. Hargreaves, though, said the school's scholarship limitations won't raise his urgency. He has not set a timeline for narrowing his list of schools, but hopes his countrywide tour brings clarification.

One thing is for sure: The Trojans made a great impression on the 5-foot-11, 185-pound speedy corner when it was their turn.

"A lot of schools are special," Hargreaves said, "but as a recruit you take notice of USC."
