LB Harris recaps program visits

4/26/2012

Hillsborough (Tampa, Fla.) linebacker Nigel Harris went to South Florida's spring game over the weekend and the 6-foot-1, 210-pound prospect liked what he saw from the hometown program.

"It was a solid game and I had the opportunity to really look at how the coaches use the linebackers," Harris said. "I saw a lot of effort and intensity from all the players so that was good."

The spring game capped off a busy April for Harris as he took trips to Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech as well.

"I was really impressed with everything I saw this month," Harris said. "I loved a lot of things about Georgia Tech, especially the academics and the way the players and coaches get along.

"It's like a family there."

Georgia Tech still hasn't extended an offer to Harris but he is hoping for one during the spring.

"I think they want to evaluate me a little more and hopefully they will see me in the spring or come to my spring game," Harris added. "They are looking at me as an outside linebacker."

Harris went to Vanderbilt with several top Tampa-area prospects to watch the Commodores' spring game.

"I really loved the city and the area surrounding the school," Harris said. "I have never been to that area before so it was a lot different than what I expected.

As for the program, Harris could see himself playing for the SEC school.

"They want to bring me in as sort of a hybrid player," Harris said. "Like an inside linebacker that also drops into pass coverage sometimes. It's a position where I can make some big plays.

"Vanderbilt really showed me a lot while I was there."

UAB, Purdue and UMass have offered Harris as well.
