Catching up with more four-star prospects

10/25/2011

The state of Florida has several four-star prospects that just missed the ESPNU 150 cut and it’s time to update the recruitment of these student-athletes.

Solidly Committed Prospects – Matt Jones, RB, Seffner Armwood (Florida); Marcus Maye, S, Melbourne Holy Trinity (Florida); T.J. Davis, DB, Tallahassee Godby (Auburn); Patrick Miller, OL, Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer (LSU); Jeremi Powell, LB, Pinellas Park (Florida); Dalvon Stuckey, DT, DeFuniak Springs Walton (FSU); Kelvin Rainey, TE, Yulee (South Carolina); Donaldven Manning, DB, Miami Central (Virginia Tech); Shakeel Rashad, LB, Jacksonville Episcopal (North Carolina); James Burgess Jr., LB, Homestead (Miami); James Hamilton, DT, Orlando Olympia (FSU).

As for the prospects that are undecided or considered to be “soft” commitments.

Name: Alton Howard

School: Orlando Edgewater

Position Rank: No. 26 WR

Update: Howard has had Tennessee with a slight lead over UCF. He has taken officials to Tennessee and Cincinnati with a visit to West Virginia on the horizon.

Name: Evan Goodman

School: Lakeland

Position Rank: No. 26 OT

Update: Goodman is a soft commit to Arizona State but he has taken visits to Nebraska and Notre Dame and will take a couple more. He is admittedly a lifelong FSU fan and could choose to stay closer to home. Working in Arizona State's favor is Goodman's brother, Devin, is a true freshman there.

Name: Sean Price

School: Citra North Marion

Position Rank: No. 7 TE

Update: Price has been committed to USF since the spring and he seems pretty excited about playing for the Bulls. However he is still listening to other schools, most notably Tennessee and Miami, so he can't be considered solid yet.

Name: Jordan Armstrong

School: Miami Varela

Position Rank: No. 35 ATH

Update: Armstrong has been relatively quiet about his recruitment this season but he did visit UConn in late September and may hold off until after the season for further visits.

Name: Daniel Isidora

School: Weston Cypress Bay

Position Rank: No. 13 OG

Update: Miami, Wisconsin and Michigan have been in Isidora's top choices for a while but FSU has shown an interest in the 330-pounder and are hoping to get him on campus for a visit. Right now, Wisconsin and Miami appear to be the schools to beat.

Name: Reggie Northrup

School: Jacksonville First Coast

Position Rank: No. 27 OLB

Update: Northrup committed to Miami before the season started but he's got an official with Arkansas coming up on Nov. 12 and is keeping his options open as he waits for the NCAA to finish with its judgment on Miami.

Name: Keith Brown

School: Miami Norland

Position Rank: No. 28 OLB

Update: Brown all but decommitted from Miami during a visit last month to Clemson. He has since rescinded that and says that Miami and Clemson are neck and neck. He has taken an official to Purdue and visited South Florida this past weekend. More visits are coming with Georgia a likely target.

Name: Jordan Diggs

School: Cape Coral Island Coast

Position Rank: No. 16 S

Update: Diggs was recently declared eligible to play after a lengthy set of judgments and appeals with the Florida High School Athletic Association. He visited Vanderbilt on Oct. 15 and is looking at visits to Tennessee and South Carolina coming up. He plans to make a decision in January.

Name: Colby Watson

School: Pensacola Pine Forest

Position Rank: No. 16 OG

Update: Watson has been hearing from Louisville for the longest time and also has a lot of interest from UCF. He'd like to go an SEC school and is hoping for additional offers down the stretch.

Name: Christopher Bivins

School: Gainesville

Position Rank: No. 15 CB

Update: Bivins committed to South Florida during their spring showcase event and has taken officials to N.C. State and Arkansas since then. While Bivins likes the idea of playing for the Bulls and with his good friend Sean Price he also has dreams of playing in the SEC or for one of Florida's original big three.

Name: Jelani Hamilton

School: St. Thomas Aquinas

Position Rank: No. 36 DE

Update: Hamilton committed to Miami in June but he also likes the idea of playing in the SEC, most specifically LSU. Florida State is also still interested and may pursue Hamilton if they lose Mario Edwards. Hamlton suffered a knee injury in Aquinas' loss to Miramar and is done for the season.

Name: Abraham Garcia

School: Davie University School

Position Rank: No. 23 OG

Update: “Nacho” hasn't said too much about his recruiting and has no official visits planned in the next month or so. Wisconsin and Louisville have been the most interested but there is time for a new school to jump in.
