Plantation (Fla.) defensive tackle Monty Nelson received his first offers last week from Indiana and West Virginia. And if future indications are correct the 6-foot-1, 310-pound junior should have plenty more on the way.
"It was nice to get the first two offers because you never know about the recruiting process so it's important to appreciate every offer you get," Nelson said. "Both offers came earlier in the month -- West Virginia was first and then Indiana."
Nelson says several programs will be taking a look at him this spring. Coaches from Florida, Miami, Alabama, Winconsin, South Florida, Louisville and UCF have all expressed interest according to Nelson.
In the meantime he's staying busy with other sports.
"I'm doing track right now and I qualified for the state wrestling tournament this year," Nelson added. "That was cool because it was my first year wrestling."
Nelson said he's talked to coaches from both Indiana and West Virginia and would like to visit each campus over the summer. He's also looking at several other camps but hasn't finalized a schedule yet.
"Only thing I know I'm definitely going to attend is Friday Night Lights at Florida," Nelson said. "I'm going to do that and I'm going to do the Elite Scouting combine on March 17th.
"Everything else is still up in the air."
