Ga. OL Tre Carter lands first offer

It was a big Friday for Georgia Military College offensive lineman Tre Carter, who picked up his first scholarship offer.

“I got my first one today from Akron,” Carter said. “I checked them out on the Internet. The facilities look cool and so are the coaches there. I definitely want to get up there and check them out.”

Carter, 6-foot-3 and 285 pounds, is originally from Marion County High School in Buena Vista, Ga. He wasn’t always that size. In fact, he was a lot smaller when he showed up in Milledgeville.

“When we signed Tre in February he was 245 pounds,” said Joe Windon, the team’s offensive line coach. “From February to June he went from 245 to 270 pounds. He went from 270 to 275 through camp. He’s now 285. You watch his film and see just how athletic he is.”

Carter is moving from center to guard this upcoming season. He played in every game as a freshman and started seven.

“He is so quick,” Windon said. “Tre is powerful and very explosive. He’s the most explosive offensive lineman I have ever coached. He has great hips and legs. Right now I think he will be a more desirable prospect at center.”

Windon loves Carter. He knows the kid, who knows how hard he has worked and believes he has a great future ahead of him.

“I have a soft spot for this kid,” Windon said. “You hear coaches say ‘that if I had 11 guys like him.’ Tre Carter is that guy. He leads by example and has an infectious attitude. He’s tough as heck and will do anything you ask. Tre is so coachable. And this is a kid that came from a high school that never threw the ball. He learned fast and has worked very hard in the classroom. He will graduate in December.”

Middle Tennessee State, Appalachian State, Miami of Ohio, and Troy have also inquired about Carter.
