ESPN Watch List defensive tackle Elisha Shaw (Tucker, Ga./Tucker) did not get to meet with Georgia defensive line coach Rodney Garner when the 6-foot-5, 292-pound standout dropped in on the Bulldogs' junior day on Saturday. He had to settle for a different coach.
“Coach Garner wasn’t there but I talked to Mark Richt,” Shaw said. “He was just telling me to stay focused. He was talking about how good Georgia is and how they are a family up there and how they take care of you.”
The strong defensive lineman took in one of Georgia’s bowl game practices, toured the facilities and checked out the meeting rooms.
“My favorite part was watching practice,” Shaw said. “They are aggressive. They keep a high tempo at practice. That was exciting. I got to see Josh Dawson, John Jenkins, Bacarri Rambo and all of those guys.”
Dawson played at Tucker High School with Shaw last year. The freshman outside linebacker is not pushing Shaw to pick Georgia -- but he wouldn’t mind if Shaw did so.
“He tells me to follow my heart but he would like me to go there,” Shaw said.
Shaw already has offers from some of the top programs in the nation such as Alabama, Florida State and Georgia, with more on the way.
“Ohio State offered Wednesday,” Shaw said. “Georgia, Buffalo, Alabama, FSU, Kentucky, Western Kentucky all came by to see me this week. South Carolina was going to offer me but I was not at school.”
Shaw gives an emphatic “no” when asked if he has a favorite school yet. He has some visits planned that might help him get a better sense of the programs pursuing him.
“I am going to go to Alabama’s junior day and to the FSU junior day,” Shaw said. “Alabama is physical. They stick together as a family -- the players and the fans. The coaches there are really good and I like how they push you. They treat their players like their own.”
Shaw had high praise for the Seminoles, too.
“FSU is a nice school and what I really like about it is that it is never dead,” Shaw said. “The players are real down to earth. All of the players are hungry and trying to get it. They stick together, play together and fight through it for all four quarters.”
