Ashton Shumpert is strongly considering a visit to Vanderbilt this weekend, the ESPN 300 safety stated via text message on Wednesday.
"Vanderbilt I think," he stated when asked where he might visit this weekend.
The Commodores, who are 3-4 and 2-3 in the SEC, host Massachusetts this weekend. After that, Vandy won't have much of a chance to impress prospects with a game day atmosphere. Of their final four games, three are on the road. Vanderbilt hosts Tennessee on Nov. 17.
Shumpert, a four-star athlete prospect from Fulton (Miss.) Itawamba, has taken fall visits to Georgia, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. All of the visits were unofficial, so Shumpert can take official visits after the season. Shumpert previously told ESPN he was considering several schools, including every school in the SEC, Oklahoma State, Memphis and Southern Miss.
Vandy has long been an interesting player for Shumpert, who visited Nashville this summer for a passing camp. An injury kept Shumpert out of the tournament so he toured the campus and city. The positive tour had Shumpert determined to make a return visit.
