FSU commit Whitfield will take visits

10/22/2012

COCOA, Fla. – Despite outgaining Cocoa (Fla.) by more than 100 yards, Orlando (Fla.) Jones fell short 31-24 and will likely settle for second in its district.

ESPN 150 athlete Levonte “Kermit” Whitfield, however, arguably had his best game to date with a 56-yard touchdown reception and a 15-yard touchdown run while lining up as a wildcat quarterback.

Although Whitfield didn’t get his hands on the ball until late in the first quarter, he became much more involved in the final three quarters as a quarterback and wide receiver.

“I think I’ve grown a lot as a player and this team has grown a lot,” Whitfield said. “We fight much harder in each game.”

Whitfield has been committed to Florida State for several months but he made some waves last week when he suggested that he might want to leave Florida and would be looking toward Oregon. On Friday, the 5-foot-9, 175-pound senior tried to put those rumors to rest.

“That was nothing really, just me messing around on Twitter,” Whitfield added. “I am committed to Florida State. I talk to the coaches a lot; it’s the best of both worlds for me with track and football.

“I would like to take an official to Oregon, but that’s about it.”

Whitfield is planning on taking all five official visits and says Florida State, Miami, West Virginia, Ohio State and Oregon are his preferred destinations.

“I just want to check some other schools out,” Whitfield added. “See some other campus and see some big-time players at other schools.”
