TAMPA, Fla. – It took a while for three-star linebacker Nigel Harris (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough) to catch his breath after Thursday night’s 3-0 victory over Seffner (Fla.) Armwood.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound senior recorded 16 tackles in the game and had three tackles for loss.
“It’s really the best feeling I’ve had a player since I’ve been here,” Harris said. “It was just a great effort from this team, my teammates, my friends; we all banded together and finally beat Armwood.”
Harris admits he’s put his recruitment on the back burner this season because of games like this. The victory Thursday could give Hillsborough an outright district championship.
“I really, you know, I’ve had some schools that I liked,” Harris explained. “South Florida, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech ... Arizona is in there as well.
“But I wanted to wait for this game. I wanted to play in some big games so the coaches out there know exactly what type of player I am. They can see that I fight as hard as anyone and never give in.”
Harris said it’s likely he’ll wait until the end of the season before kick-starting his recruitment again. That means his official visits will come in mid-December at the earliest and a decision won’t come before 2013.
“That’s the plan right now,” Harris added. “Just keep playing and let the recruiting take care of itself.”
