Cornelius "Corn" Elder is ready for Ohio State

10/18/2012

Cornelius "Corn" Elder knows what he wants to see during his weekend visit to Ohio State.

"I just want to get to know the coaches and see the campus and the atmosphere," the ESPN 300 prospect from Nashville Ensworth told ESPN via text message.

Elder is listed as a running back but could play a number of positions. That would make him an interesting pick-up for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer has proven he can utilize versatile athletes like Elder, who is also considering several other schools. Meyer has used players similar to Elder in hybrid roles in which they play tailback and receiver. That would seem to be a good fit for the 5-foot-10, 170-pound Elder, who probably isn't big enough to be a full-time tailback in a power-running offense.

"They have a good offense, just missing a couple of pieces," Elder said.

Basketball figures to be a key component in Elder's recruitment. He has said he prefers basketball over football and would like to play both sports in college.
