Leon McQuay talks Vandy visit

10/16/2012

SEFFNER, Fla. -- ESPN 150 defensive back Leon McQuay III (Seffner, Fla./Armwood) said he had a “great time” on his recent official visit to Vanderbilt and will announce his final decision at the Under Armour All-America Game on Jan. 4.

The 6-foot-2, 183-pound senior has kept Vanderbilt in his top group of schools since he was a junior and visited the campus on several occasions.

While McQuay didn’t talk about whether this visit was much different or not, he was impressed with the school and the effort he saw from the football team in a 31-17 loss to No. 2 Florida.

“It’s a great school with great academics and a good music program,” McQuay said. “I had a lot of fun at the game. They played hard and the crowd was into it. I talked with coach [James] Franklin and, well you know, he told me much of the same things the other coaches hold told me. They all say they want me in their program.”

Something else that draws McQuay to Vanderbilt is his friendship with Vanderbilt wide receiver Josh Grady, who was McQuay’s teammate at Armwood in 2010.

“I got to hang out with Josh for a little while, and that was nice,” McQuay said. “It was a nice visit.”

McQuay’s next trip will be to Oregon in the final week of October. From there he will take an official to Michigan on Nov. 9 and Florida State on Nov. 23. The nation’s third-ranked safety took an official visit to USC over Labor Day weekend.
