Christian Morris it taking a bit of a break from recruiting.
The offensive tackle from Memphis (Tenn.) East said he will take only one other visit this fall before his senior season is complete in early December. Coaches at East High School have requested as much from their handful of prospects. The one exception to that is a previously scheduled official visit on Nov. 17 to UCLA, which is the school Morris committed to in July.
UCLA seemed like a good fit when Morris committed since he expressed a desire to play on the West Coast. Morris might still end up in Los Angeles but other schools, such as Nebraska, Oklahoma and Arizona State, are proving worthy competition for the Bruins.
"Region doesn't play a big part in my decision and where I want to go to college," Morris said. "I'm still solid with UCLA but if these schools impressed me a lot more, that would play a big part before signing day."
Morris said he's looking for early playing time, good coaching technique, a strong bond with potential teammates and a good relationship with a school's strength and conditioning coach in a potential college. A recent visit to Nebraska seemed to provide all of that.
"It's a great town. Cool fans," Morris said. "The team is a very good team … They produce a lot of players at my position. They rotate their tackles. I like their style of play. It's kind of like a pro set."
That rotation at tackle could help Morris get early playing time.
"They said if I was willing to come in and compete I could get a starting spot," Morris said, referring to Nebraska's coaches.
Morris said he plans to visit Oklahoma and Arizona State after his senior season. The Sooners figure to be a major player for Morris. He's long followed the team via television and video games.
"Oklahoma is an elite school," he said. "They've been a long time favorite. I watched them on T.V. and I used to play with them on NCAA."
