Ricky Smithers is sure he has a dominant football player on his hands -- if he can continue to improve.
Offensive lineman Anthony Kibler transferred to Booneville (Miss.) Community College after off-field issues at South Florida led to his dismissal from the team. Smithers said several college coaches have been in contact with him concerning Kibler but are understandably waiting to make sure things go well in junior college.
Smithers said Kibler also needs to drop some weight. He's currently 6-foot-5 and 350 pounds. Smither said he needs to weigh 325.
"He's an NFL guy," Smithers said of Kibler's potential. "A lot of people are just waiting to see how he'll respond."
Smithers should know. He's coached plenty of prospects that have gone onto the NFL. He also coached Atlanta Falcons' receiver Julio Jones in high school.
Kibler signed with South Florida as a part of the 2010 class over interest from several schools. He is originally from Belle Glade (Fla.) Glades Day. As part of the 2013 class, he'll have two years of eligibility remaining.
