Tampa athlete Jackson motivated by list

10/2/2012

Class of 2014 athlete Vincent Jackson (Tampa, Fla./Jesuit) kept searching for his name on the ESPN Watch List and was disappointed when he couldn’t find it.

However the 6-foot-3, 230-pound junior says it will just be more motivation for him.

“I have to admit it’s a little disappointing not to be on the watch list but I can’t dwell over it too much,” Jackson said. “There have been a lot of guys that didn’t make the watch list but they ended up on the top 150.”

Jackson admits he struggled at times during the offseason and that might have had an effect on his current standing.

“I wasn’t myself at times over the spring so that probably had something to do with it,” Jackson said. “But I’m healthy now and motivated to have a strong season.”

Jackson, who plays tight end, linebacker and some defensive end for Jesuit, is still unsure about his future position. He took in the South Florida-Florida State game this past weekend and both schools are looking at him as a linebacker.

Several other programs are also looking at Jackson on the defensive side of the ball, but he’s hoping to get more looks at tight end.

“I really think I have a special skill set for tight end so I’m trying to convince more coaches that I can play that position,” Jackson said. “I will keep working at it.”

Jackson mentioned the possibility of going to the Florida-LSU game this Saturday.
