ESPN 150 cornerback Jalen Ramsey (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) committed to USC in July, but that hasn’t stopped him from taking other visits. He took his first official visit to Florida during the weekend for the Kentucky game.
“It went good,” Ramsey said. “It was a good visit. It was my first official, so it was official-like. I liked the coaching staff. It was just a good environment. I liked the fans. It was fun getting to hang with some of the players and just watching some football.”
After his visit to Florida, the USC coaches called to see how the trip went, but Ramsey said it was nothing more than the weekly call he shares with the staff.
However, the Tennessee native is already planning a return trip to Gainesville. He says he’s going to visit in two weeks when the Gators host LSU. This weekend, he might visit Alabama for the Ole Miss game.
For Ramsey, whose father and uncle both grew up Gators fans, it was his first time to Gainesville and first time on UF’s campus.
“I liked it,” he said. “Gainesville itself is a college town. Everybody loves and bleeds Florida, so I liked that part about it.”
On his trip, Ramsey spent a lot of quality time with the Florida coaching staff, who made it clear that they want the 6-foot, 190-pound cornerback.
“They were telling me how they could use me, how I could impact early and how I could fit with their scheme and stuff like that,” Ramsey said. “They’re going to keep recruiting me until signing day.”
The Gators already have a commitment from the nation’s No. 1 cornerback, five-star Vernon Hargreaves III, but Ramsey sees that as an advantage. Not only does it bring competition, but the two could form quite a duo in the secondary.
“I think it’s a good thing,” he said. “There’s always more than one corner on the field at once, so it’s not like that’s a bad thing. For one, competition is not a bad thing anyway. Competition just makes you better. Two, we could have two good corners on the field at once with me and Vernon.”
