LB Brian Mills commits to Iowa State

9/10/2012

Iowa State continues to recruit well in the state of Florida, as the Cyclones have gained the verbal commitment of linebacker Brian Mills (Clermont, Fla./East Ridge) on Monday.

The 6-foot, 190-pound senior is the 16th commitment for Cyclones overall and the fourth from Florida.

Mills, who was recruited by Iowa State's top assistant, Wally Burnham, says he'll take his official visit in a couple of weeks and that the program's infrastructure is what sold him.

"In my family education means everything so my family and I checked out the high graduation rate and how the coaches stress to the players to earn their degrees," Mills said. "It shows you that the program cares about the players that develop and wants to send you off into the world prepared for life."

Mills says he's being brought in to play a nickel back and more of a hybrid safety. He is excited about the style of football that Iowa State is becoming known for.

"I like the fact that Iowa State is a hard-hitting team," Mills said. "They work hard and they don't back down. They are continuing to improve and compete with the upper-echelon programs. I like the things they are doing on and off the field."
