Former MSU commit Woods favors two

9/10/2012

OXFORD, Ala. -- ESPN 300 wide receiver DeAndre Woods committed to Mississippi State in June, but last week, the Pinson, Ala., native opted to decommit from the Bulldogs and reopen his recruitment.

“It was personal issues,” Woods said. “I’ve got to get my priorities straight, focus on school and get my schoolwork done first. Then I can think about that later on after the season.”

Mississippi State is still in the mix along with SEC West foe Arkansas, but Purdue and Vanderbilt are the two schools who currently sit at the top of his list.

“Vanderbilt stands out because they’re building up, and they’re looking for high talent,” Woods said. “I just want to go there, get my education and leave with a degree.

“Purdue has a good business program that I want to major in, and they’re in the Big Ten, so they’ve got a lot of competition. I enjoy that, too.”

Woods plans to wait until after his senior season at Clay-Chalkville High School before he thinks about a decision. On Friday night, the Cougars, ranked No. 2 in the state, picked up a big win over Oxford.
