Bradenton (Fla.) Manatee defensive lineman Demarcus Christmas had no shortage of phone calls and Facebook messages on Sept. 1.
Several programs have the 6-foot-4, 290-pound junior at the top of their boards in the class of 2014, and the coaches were quick to make contact.
"I started receiving messages on my Facebook right after midnight," Christmas said. "Several schools got in touch -- Alabama, Miami, Florida State, Rutgers, South Florida, Auburn, Mississippi State and North Carolina are the ones I remember."
Christmas was trying to stay focused on Sunday's nationally televised game against Miramar (Fla.), a 41-6 victory for Manatee. The spotlight of national television was something that felt a little strange to Christmas.
"It was a completely different schedule than I was used to," Christmas said. "Everyone was playing on Friday night and we were playing Sunday. It was a little hot and uncomfortable at times but overall it was a great experience and a great win for the program."
As for Christmas' recruitment, he already has a few favorites.
"I really like Florida State and what they are doing on defense there," Christmas said. "They have a lot of great defensive lineman and they all play off of each other real well. I definitely like Florida State.
"I also like Alabama, Miami and South Florida. I'm going to probably go to games at those four schools and Auburn as well."
