Spotlight Prospect: Four-star offensive lineman Denver Kirkland admits he fought a small battle of the bulge this offseason but the 6-4, 330-pound senior is working himself back into shape and remains a highly-recruited prospect. "I've been working out a lot over the summer and my conditioning has improved," Kirkland said. "I still have a ways to go but it's going to workout." Kirkland was seemingly everywhere in the offseason with visits to Florida State, Miami, South Florida and an appearance at The Opening. "I've had a lot of great experiences this offseason and that's nice but now I want to win state," Kirkland added. As for his recruitment Kirkland likes the in-state programs -- Miami, Florida State and South Florida but he's also interested in USC, Rutgers, Louisville and West Virginia.
Recruiting News: Thomas, the nation's top-rated outside linebacker, will be the subject of a heated battle between Florida State and Miami with Alabama holding an outside shot. Thomas and Kirkland could end up at the same program when it's all said and done and are considered top priorities for Miami. As for Florida State, the Seminoles already has a commitment from four-star defensive back Michael Johnson and is the early leader for 2014 prospect Chad Thomas. Another cornerback, Darren Parker (6-0, 175), will likely leave the state and has Connecticut and Minnesota among his early favorites. Booker T. Washington will have no less than eight prospects sign with FBS programs in the class of 2013.
