AUBURN, Ala. -- High school teammates Tony Fields and Jonathan Vickers have decided to tackle the recruiting process together. The 2014 duo from North Florida Christian in Tallahassee, Fla., is currently trying to attend the same college camps this summer.
“We got together a couple months ago to talk about where we’re going, and we’ve tried to get together to go to the same camps,” Vickers said. “But he’s going to some places I’m not going. I’m going to other places he’s not going.”
On Saturday, Fields and Vickers visited Auburn for the Tigers’ Mini-Camp II. Fields wasn’t able to participate because of a minor injury, but Vickers competed and performed well among the other running backs there.
“It was good,” Vickers said. “It was kind of nerve-wrecking to come here to my first camp, working out at Auburn. I just came here, tried to do my best, and I think I did very well.
It was the first time the rising junior had been to AU’s campus, but it won’t be the last.
“It’s great,” he said. “The facilities are great. The coaches seem real genuine to me, so I think I like it very well. I’m going to try to come back for an early game.”
Vickers already has offers from Clemson, Georgia Tech and Ole Miss and says he’s receiving interest from Alabama, Auburn, Oregon and South Carolina. On Sunday, he and Fields will be in Tuscaloosa for the Crimson Tide’s camp.
“I’m trying to go to the camp tomorrow and get an offer as soon as possible,” Vickers said.
