On Sunday, North Gwinnett head coach Bob Sphire told RecruitingNation that Jalen Brooks (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett) had committed to Maryland. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound outside linebacker had made a trip to College Park the week before, and Sphire said he had made his decision. On Monday, Brooks confirmed his commitment.
"Yes sir, I committed to Coach [Randy] Edsall," Brooks said. "He is talking to my parents tonight to make it official but he said congrats on wanting to be a Terp!"
Brooks committed to Maryland over offers from Ball State, Elon, Air Force, Navy, Wofford, UNC-Charlotte and Yale. Mississippi State told Brooks he would have an offer if another prospect does not commit soon. Brooks started his junior year as a hybrid outside linebacker/strong safety in the Bulldogs' 3-5 defense, making 50 tackles, 30 solo, two forced fumbles, two sacks, eight tackles for loss and six passes broken up. The Peach State standout is excited about the chance to play in the ACC.
"It feels great to be committed to Maryland," Brooks said. "It is a good fit for me."
