Auburn picked up commitment No. 9 earlier today with the pledge of Jeremy Johnson (Montgomery, Ala./Carver). Johnson, 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, is a three-star quarterback and the No. 21 pocket passer.
“I visited there today and made decision to commit to Auburn,” Johnson said. “They were the first to offer and Auburn has been there from the beginning. I have a relationship and bond with them like no other. I love being around coach [Gene] Chizik. He’s a great person to be with. The same goes with all of their staff. I just realized it was time to commit.”
Johnson is also fired up about playing for new Tiger offensive coordinator Scott Loeffler.
“I also have a great relationship with their new offensive coordinator,” Johnson said. “He has a great background and history and has coached a lot of great NFL players. Coach Loeffler has developed a lot of guys and that’s where I want to be.”
Johnson, who committed to Auburn over LSU and Ole Miss, says people compare his game to former Auburn standout Cam Newton. But Johnson believes they are more different then the same.
“He’s a much better runner than I am and I think I am a better thrower than him,” Johnson said. “But I know I have a ways to go.
“I am a good athlete and I know I am blessed. I just want the Auburn coaches and the Tiger fans to know that they are getting a player that will put my teammates first. I am a person of character that will work hard.”
