Florida picked up commitment No. 16 from four-star wide receiver Marqui Hawkins (Columbus, Ga./Carver) on Monday.
“I committed [Monday] after football practice,” Hawkins said. “I love playing receiver and have played the position my entire life. That’s the position Florida liked me at. It came down to them and Clemson and Clemson liked me as a safety.
“Florida has a great school and they do well at receiver. I have not talked with [offensive coordinator Brent] Pease yet. I have been talking with [Will] Muschamp, [Travaris] Robinson and [Brian] White. I have a good relationship with those guys.”
Hawkins, 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, has his sights set on playing offense.
“I am just following my dream,” Hawkins said. “I am physical, run great routes and have very good speed. The main thing is I attack the ball.”
Hawkins has not been to Gainesville yet but plans on being there in a few weeks.
“As soon as school is out I hope to get down there,” Hawkins said. “I hope to go to Friday Night Lights.”
Despite his Florida pledge Hawkins still plans on checking out a few more schools.
“It feels great because the pressure is off of me,” Hawkins said. “I still want to visit Mississippi State, Tennessee, Clemson, Auburn, North Carolina and Ole Miss. I want to just see all the schools.”
Last season as a junior he caught 31 passes for 635 yards and six touchdowns.
