Miami RB commit checks out Wisconsin

5/8/2012

South Plantation (Plantation, Fla.) running back Alex Collins raised a few eyebrows last month with a visit to Wisconsin to watch the Badgers' spring game.

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound running back said his interest in the Badgers came from being offered by head coach Bret Bielema earlier in the year.

"I saw their interest in me and I wanted to check the program out," Collins said. "I know they have always had a good running game and they have someone from this area in the backfield right now."

Collins is talking about James White, who starred at St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2010. While it's not known if Collins is seriously considering following in White's footsteps, he was impressed with what Wisconsin had to offer.

"It was a beautiful place and the facilities were amazing," Collins said. "Everything is being expanded too. Like the stadium and the players' locker rooms. They do everything first class at Wisconsin."

Collins committed to Miami in early January after visiting the campus for a junior day. He is still committed to Miami but will check out other options and take some visits over the summer and in the fall.

"I'm going to look at other schools but I still have a very good relationship with Miami and the coaching staff there," Collins said. "I'm going to take my visits and we'll see what happens but I'm still committed."

Collins has been to Florida State twice and could return to Tallahassee over the summer. He also holds an offer from Boston College.
