Will Marquel Combs (Los Angeles/Pierce Community College) head home? The defensive tackle from Memphis graduated from Hamilton High School back in 2010, but spent last season at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas and is now in Los Angeles. According to Combs he has 17 scholarship offers and many are from teams in the South.
“Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Baylor, and Texas Tech are some of the schools that have offered me,” Combs said. “Alabama, USC, Oklahoma State and Florida are all showing a lot of interest in me. I just need to take care of business here and I will be ready to go. It doesn’t matter to me about where I end up. Location is not a factor.”
Three weeks ago, Combs was back home in Memphis and had an opportunity to unofficially visit a few schools.
“I was back home and I had a chance to go visit Memphis, Ole Miss and Arkansas,” Combs said. “They were all nice visits and each had a little something different to offer, which was nice.”
Combs, 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds, is an agile big man with very good athletic ability. He believes he can play three-technique or over the center.
“I can do both but I would prefer a 3-4 defense, although to be honest, it doesn’t matter,” Combs said. “I can get off the ball and I play with a lot of aggression out there.”
Combs will have three years to play two at the school of his choice. For now, that’s the big question.
“I have no favorite right now,” Combs said. “I just want to find a good spot for me and playing time will be important. Right now I am just anxious and ready for spring practice. That starts on May 1.”
