Rankin talks about trips, future plans

3/9/2012

Last month Orlando (Fla.) East River linebacker Ryne Rankin took a tour of programs that included stops in Florida, Kentucky, Ohio State, Cincinnati and Louisville.

The 6-foot-1, 228-pound junior was one of the state's leading tacklers in 2011 and has seen his junior year accomplishments lead to offers from UCF, Louisville, Cincinnati, UConn and Temple.

"It was a great trip and all of the schools are pretty nice," Rankin said. "I would say right now both Louisville and Cincinnati are up there.

"Cincinnat was my first offer, they extended it to me before Christmas break actually."

Louisville approached Rankin when the linebacker attended their junior day event.

"That was real special because Coach [Charlie] Strong offered me himself," Rankin said. "He invited me into his office and we talked about the program and how they are on the verge of big things."

Rankin is hoping to make a final decision before his senior season begins because he'll be graduating in December.

"It's important for me to find the right school and get the recruiting process out of the way before my senior year starts," Rankin said. "I don't want to have to continue to worry about it when I should be enjoying my final year with my teammates here."

The trips aren't finished as Rankin and his father, East River head coach Marc Rankin, will be on the road again during spring break.

"I'm not sure exactly of all the places we're headed yet," Ryne Rankin said. "But I know my father has everything planned out."
