Quarterback Steven Bench (Cairo, Ga./Cairo) got a surprise phone call on Monday from Penn State.
“They said coach (Bill) O’Brien watched my film and liked me,” Bench said. “So I am going to make an official visit there this weekend. I have seen reports that I have an offer but I don’t have one. I am just going on a visit. I have never heard from Penn State and that came out of nowhere. They seem pretty interested but I am firmly committed to Rice.”
Bench, now 6-foot-3 and 205-pounds, has been committed to Rice since December. The three-star quarterback is also being pursued by Mississippi State of late. The Bulldogs made an in-home visit with him on Monday.
Bench is the nation’s No. 75 quarterback.
