Oklahoma came first for kicker Aaron Medley (Lewisburg, Tenn./Marshall County). Texas A&M followed with an offer on Monday.
But when Tennessee offered Tuesday night, it felt like the countdown had begun. Nobody had to wait that long as Medley committed to the Volunteers on Wednesday afternoon.
“Whew. This has been a great day,” Medley said. “I wanted to talk things over with my family and make sure. This is a dream come true. I’ve been a fan since I was little.”
The offer didn’t come immediately. Medley, who is 6-foot-2 and 165 pounds, said the last six weeks he has been expecting the offer to come.
He never got discouraged and after corresponding with the Tennessee coaching staff three times Tuesday, the offer was made.
Medley called Tennessee coach Butch Jones on Wednesday to let him know.
“He said it made his day so that made me really happy to know just how much they want me,” Medley said.
And just like that plans are changed for Medley. He intended to camp at OU next weekend and Texas A&M, but he said those have been scrapped. He is not camping anywhere or visiting any other schools.
“I talked to OU, A&M and Arkansas and told them how much I appreciated their interest,” Medley said. “They were all great to me and really great programs.”
They just weren’t Tennessee.
“When I got that offer, it just showed me how all the hard work and pushing myself, it was all worth it,” Medley said.
Medley is the 13th commitment for Tennessee’s 2014 class.
