Junior college wide receiver Courtney Gardner (Roseville, Calif./Sierra College) committed to the Razorbacks Thursday afternoon.
“Basically I was tired of waiting so long,” Gardner said. “I talked with the coaches and decided to make the decision for Arkansas. The thing that had the biggest impact on my decision was the support you get there from the coaches and fan base. I wanted to go somewhere where I was wanted. I love the coaching staff and the facilities as well.”
Another big factor to Gardner was the opportunity to play in Bobby Petrino’s high-powered offense.
“I think I have a great opportunity to show what I can do in that offense,” Gardner said. “Tyler (Wilson) is there and they have some big time receivers. We can all do great.”
Despite his pledge to the Razorbacks, Gardner says he’s not done taking visits. He says he will take one or possibly two more official visits.
“I am still going to take my visit to Florida State (Jan. 13), and will probably visit Florida,” Gardner said. “That will be on January 20th or 27th. Florida hasn’t offered yet but I think they will. I am still committed to Arkansas but I want to take it to make sure this is the best thing for me. You never know what is out there.”
Gardner, 6-foot-2 and 215-pounds, caught 61 passes for more than 1,100 yards and scored 14 touchdowns. He also blocked seven field goals and three punts.
