Vanderbilt continues its hot streak, picking up a very good prospect from south Alabama in three-star cornerback Torren McGaster (Daphne, Ala./Daphne). He made an unofficial visit to see the Commodores Wednesday and saw enough to make him commit.
“I went up there today and I really liked it,” McGaster said. “I really like coach (James) Franklin. I love the guy’s energy. The coaches and players are cool. Of course with Vandy, it’s academics. That’s what stands out the most. It’s not like any other college. I also like the campus and how everything is so close. You can walk everywhere.”
McGaster will make his official visit to Vanderbilt on Jan. 20. He’s excited to be a part of what many consider to be the finest recruiting class in Commodores history. Right now Franklin and his staff find Vandy with the No. 22 ranked recruiting class in the nation.
“It’s awesome to be a part of this class,” McGaster said. “There’s nothing like this feeling. I am blessed to have this opportunity. This is great and very exciting. I just want to get there and go straight in and compete for playing time. I want to help them build their program to play for SEC Championships and hopefully BCS Championships.”
The 5-foot-11 and 180-pound McGaster committed to Vanderbilt over USF, FIU, Troy, Missouri, Minnesota, Illinois, UAB, Memphis and others. He’s the No. 73 ranked cornerback in the nation and the No. 48 rated player from the state of Alabama.
