NC State DT Hooker recruiting Gurley

12/13/2011

K'Hadree Hooker is technically still a college football prospect, but he's more like a recruiter.

The 6-foot-2, 270-pound defensive tackle from Deep Run (N.C.) South Lenoir has had his eye on two prospects during the events leading up to the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas this weekend. As he's done since he committed to North Carolina State in August, Hooker is focused on swaying four-star athlete Todd Gurley from Tarboro (N.C.) High School.

“I'm in Gurley's ear,” Hooker said. “I ain't going to say everyday because we're real good friends and I've been through what he's going through so I don't want to put a lot of pressure on him. He pretty much knows how I feel.”

Gurley had said he was primarily focused on North Carolina and Georgia before he started to look at other schools. He took an unofficial visit to see the Wolfpack with Hooker last month. Gurley is scheduled to announce his decision on Jan. 3.

Hooker is also trying to sway three-star offensive guard Bryce Kennedy from Southern Pines (N.C.) Pinecrest, who committed to North Carolina in October.

“I feel like we've got a great chance to pull him from North Carolina,” Hooker said. “He's a great person and a great teammate to have. I like him, not just as a player, but his personality.
