Prattville, Ala., is going to be ground central for a few recruiting battles over the next several weeks.
One of Prattville's players to keep a close eye on is quarterback/athlete Jalen Whitlow. He was an Arkansas State commitment, but that changed when Hugh Freeze became the coach of the Rebels.
“Things have really been heating up for Jalen,” said Jamey Dubose, Prattsville’s coach. “Coach Freeze and Ole Miss got on him quick when they got to Ole Miss, and he will visit Ole Miss in January. Many schools have come in here of late and watched his video. Minnesota has offered and Arkansas is looking at him. Some Conference USA schools like UCF and UAB are jumping on him. Auburn was even a school that brought him in for several of their late games.”
Whitlow, 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, had a great year and was one of their key players in their state championship run. Dubose feels he’s one of the best players in the state.
“At that size he runs 4.4 (40-yard dash),” Dubose said. “He’s very raw but he has so much upside. He has that body and a physical presence. I think he will be a receiver, and to me he’s an SEC guy all the way. Heck, I haven’t seen him drop a ball this year. Jalen is a diamond in the rough.”
