Miami received a commitment from offensive lineman Sonny Odogwu (Chatham, Va./Hargrave Military Academy) on Friday.
The 6-foot-8, 287-pound Odogwu is the 12th member of Miami’s 2013 recruiting class and the fifth verbal commitment the Hurricanes have received this month.
Odogwu was offered by Miami earlier in the month and took an official visit to the school on Dec. 16. He is expected to enroll in January and participate in spring practices. Odogwu also took official visits to Mississippi State and Texas Tech.
Originally from Nigeria, Odogwu moved to the United States in 2009 with hopes of becoming a basketball prospect. He played the sport at Conyers (Ga.) Victory Christian and at Huntington Prep in West Virginia before transferring to Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances as a senior, where he started playing football.
