2013 RB Jordan Huff commits to NIU

12/10/2012

On Thursday, Rod Carey was promoted from offensive coordinator to head coach at Northern Illinois, and Monday, he landed a commitment from running back Jordan Huff (Mobile, Ala./St. Paul’s), who took his official visit to NIU over the weekend.

“They’ve really been looking at me over the last couple of months, and they have been dying to get me up there for an official visit to come see what they have to offer,” he said. “They’re No. 15 in the nation right now, and they’re playing in the Orange Bowl in Miami in January, so that’s a big plus.

“I went up there, and I loved it. There weren’t that many people there because of the holidays, but it was still nice to be up there and check everything out.”

Huff suffered a torn ACL last year, but he bounced back and had a solid senior season, helping his team reach the AHSAA Class 5A semifinals. The 5-foot-9, 190-pound running back believes he has a chance to play early at Northern Illinois.

“They said I would definitely be able to play as a true freshman,” Huff said. “They said I can come in and help contribute right away, which that’s exactly what I wanted to hear.”

Huff had interest from a number of Big 10 schools before making his commitment, but he says his mind is made up.

“I’m going to stick to NIU and get ready to go up there in June.”

Huff is planning to attend the Huskies’ bowl game against Florida State next month.
