As far as prospects are concerned, Bret Bielema won the news conference.
"I'm excited about it," Arkansas quarterback commitment Austin Allen said when asked about Bielema's hiring. "Watching his news conference got me pumped up about him being my future coach. He seems like a great guy and a great coach."
Bielema was hired this week to replace interim coach John L. Smith. Bielema was formerly the head coach at Wisconsin.
Allen, who is from Fayetteville (Ark.) High, said he already has reached out to two of his teammates to see what they thought of the hiring: linebacker Brooks Ellis and safety Alex Brignoni. Both are also committed to Arkansas and were impressed by Bielema.
"I've talked to Brooks Ellis and Alex Brignoni, and they're really fired up about it and can't wait to get to know him," Bielema said.
Allen's excitement is good news for the Razorbacks. He is Arkansas' third-highest rated commitments. Ellis is No. 2. Brignoni is the 10th-highest rated prospect in Arkansas' 18-man class.
