QB Brett Sheehan decommits from FIU

12/5/2012

After being committed to FIU for six months, quarterback Brett Sheehan (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) is back on the market after the firing of head coach Mario Cristobal.

“With Coach Cristobal being released, I'm going to open everything up,” Sheehan said. “I had a good relationship with him and he was actually up at my house last night along with Coach [Tim] Cramsey, the offensive coordinator, and Coach [Apollo] Wright, the running backs coach. But with all this happening today, I am decommiting and just seeing what happens with my recruitment from here.”

Sheehan earned offers from South Alabama, Georgia State, and FIU in the spring.

South Alabama later got a commitment from fellow Peach State passer Taylor Lamb (Calhoun, Ga./Calhoun). Middle Tennessee showed a lot of interest until yet another in-state quarterback A.J. Erdely (Cumming, Ga./West Forsyth) committed, but have stayed in touch all year. After committing to FIU, Sheehan and his coaching staff stopped taking calls from interested colleges, although Duke, Ohio, Indiana and Mississippi State all invited the 6-foot-2, 200-pound senior to attend their camps over the summer.

Buffalo and Georgia State have been in contact during the last month. Expect more activity over the next few days while Sheehan prepares to play in the Gwinnett County All-Star Game on Dec. 21.
